Git logoAfter a 2 month hiatus around the holidays, we’re back in full force! This month we’ll do an Introduction to Git. Also, this month we’ll have a raffle for a few items. Come and check them out!

Git is a distributed revision control system with an emphasis on speed, data integrity, and support for distributed, non-linear workflows. Git was initially designed and developed by Linus Torvalds for Linux kernel development in 2005, and has since become the most widely adopted version control system for software development. We’ll get our feet wet with setting up and maintaining a local Git repository, using command line and GUI tools, and linking it to one of the major repositories (GitHub, BitBucket, etc.).

Ronald Bruintjes is an Applications Engineer at Medeco Security Locks in Salem. He has worked for almost 25 years with a variety of database environments, including Progress OpenEdge, Microsoft SQL and MySQL, and a variety of programming platforms, including C, Progress OpenEdge, Python and JavaScript. Currently he’s involved in transitioning the company to a new ERP system. In his spare time he spends time with his wife and kid, and dabbles in gardening, electronics and other computer languages.

Our meeting will be at Excella Consulting, Corporate Research Center, 2000 Kraft Drive, Blacksburg, on February 12th, from 6PM until 7:30PM.
